Thank you to everyone who’s given feedback, and endured my excitement over this project. And a special thanks to the guy who discretely accused me via email (and not in my comments) of being a ‘big fat name dropper’. 1,000% guilty!
Now, an update. After a few more rounds with ‘he who shall not be named’, we arrived at the following design. There were 2 or 3 color iterations before these, but What’s-his-face and I agree, Airbag really comes through here. Working with the worn look in Illustrator is wicked fun, and quite different than with Photoshop. Still a little left to do, but wanted to share these in progress.
Make sure you harass Old so-and-so at SXSW for a new business card. They feature these designs and are quite nifty!
And if you haven’t checked out Nick “I’ve never called Mark Bixby on the telephone” Bantock’s work yet, I highly recommend a book called Urgent 2nd Class. Masterful collage & typography.
Please let me know what you think. Just don’t tell anyone who they’re for, m’kay?

Looks great, but I think you spilled some coffee on the postcard!

Beautiful work Mark! What would it take to get some of your work on my business cards?

Freaking awesome!I will be ecstatic if my business cards come out half as nice.

Thanks Tim! The composition is entirely you-know-who's so I can't take all the credit. Call me any time if you have a project, or want to collaborate on something! ![]()
Mark,Great stuff! Any tips on "Working with the worn look in Illustrator..." ?

Mark,I second the "tips on working with the worn look in Illustrator." Share the wealth!
Great work.

Thanks! I couldn't possibly add much to Cameron Moll's coprehensive tutorial on Wicked Worn, but I will definitely write something on the Pathfinder tool in the future.

Excellent design, very Airbaggian indeed, and I'm sure Mr. What's-his-face is quite happy with it.I have one problem with it though; the zeppelin is positioned a little bit too high, imho the bottom of the zeppelin should "dip into" the red strip.
That's my advice, use it or kick it to the curb, I won't mind either way. Very nice design.

They're all quite nice but my personal favorite is numero uno. Reminds me a of beer coaster from the 50s/60s... in perfect step with the current airbag brand but enough removed for a complete redesign. I could see numbers two and three being used on sub pages within the site. archives, contact etc. Number four... BINGO for a business card (with the sky colored airbag blue).

and clouds on the business card too ; )

I just creamed all over my keyboard... ![]()
Thank you, and uh... ew.Andrew Hamann is going to take over the Internet, and rule the world someday. Read his "about" here... (15 years old???!!!)

Right on, The darker colors are much improved over the first one you showed. I dig the triangle.

Very cool! Quit hoggin' all the talent, Mark!

Love love love the back of the business card, it really pulls it all together. I'm assuming #4 is showing the back. If it's not, it should. It would be slick. Something like that (pulling your red onto the back) would also be fun on #1.

I like the back of the card too. But if that's really who the principal is of Airbag Industries, LLC, no wonder they have to outsource. -g

Jeff, I'm legally changing my name from Greg to Cloud of Pixels. And in a year I'll just change it to some kind of symbol for a group of pixels (but I refuse to wear the buttless chaps and face masks).

I really like where you're going with these (and your site)! My only criticism would be that the stain on the second card from the bottom gives the impression that the airship could be emitting some sort of dirty gas (negative)... or it could also be interpreted as showing motion (positive). If you enjoy Nick Bantock, you might also like the work of Barbara Hodgson.

Greg, you're a Prince.

Just a comment:You should be a "“big fat name dropper." As I always say, "If I don't 'toot!" my own horn, no one else will!" It's called marketing and promotion.
By the way, congratulations on being selected as HOW Magazine's "5 Hot Links."

Thanks for the advice Jeff (yes, THAT Jeff Fisher!), and for uh... tooting my horn! ![]()
You've truly done an outstanding job with this project, Mark. Awesome work man.

Looks great really, Mark. Maybe the second one looks a bit too much "dirty"? Otherwise, great.

This is pretty much one of the best blogs I have ever seen. Congratulations on being awesome, Mark. You're going to get all the chicks.Carry on.

Looks great, Mark. Inspires me to spend the next couple of days in Photoshop.
